Residents have protected time every Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lectures are provided on various topics and are given by core faculty, specialists, outside speakers, and residents. Didactics also include interactive sessions and quizzes with the Program Director to cover core material. Additionally, residents participate in weekly board review, regular journal club, and multidisciplinary collaborations like gait rounds and rehab rounds. Residents participate in hospital committees including Peer Review, PM&R committee, and Patient Satisfaction, among others.
There are abundant research opportunities for residents at Casa Colina. The residents can work closely with Caroline Schnakers, PhD, who is the Assistant Director of the Casa Colina Research Institute and an expert in disorders of consciousness and brain injury. Residents receive a research lecture series from Dr. Schnakers as part of their didactics. This support allows residents to create or participate in a variety of research projects.
Residents are on call from Monday through Sunday of each call week. During the week, residents participate in their regularly scheduled rotations during normal business hours and take call from home outside of business hours. During the weekend, residents handle admissions and rounding for the Casa Colina Inpatient Unit.
