Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine

Comprehensive wound care and hyperbaric medicine to maximize healing

The Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center at Casa Colina Hospital and Centers for Healthcare provides the most advanced wound care and hyperbaric medicine services to provide prevention, intervention, and effective treatment at one convenient location.

Who Will Benefit from Wound Care?

Patients who will benefit from our comprehensive approach to wound intervention include those with:

  • Injuries and trauma
  • Chemical and thermal burns
  • Neuropathic conditions
  • Diabetes
  • Vascular disease, both arterial and venous
  • Acute and chronic wounds
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Surgical wounds

Who Will Benefit from Hyperbaric Medicine Services?

For patients with appropriate conditions, we offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which is the standard of care for chronic non-healing diabetic wounds and amputation sites. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy promotes and accelerates healing by enabling large amounts of oxygen to be dissolved into the blood and tissues, promoting new tissue growth. By receiving 100% oxygen in state-of-the-art pressurized chambers, patients benefit immediately from the therapeutic effects of higher tissue oxygen levels.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is recommended for patients with:

  • Chronic diabetic ulcers
  • Certain difficult-to-heal wounds
  • Compromised skin grafts and flaps
  • Non-healing amputation sites
  • Delayed radiation injury of soft tissue or bone
  • Acute traumatic crush injuries
  • Acute peripheral arterial insufficiency
  • Thermal burns
  • Chronic bone infections
  • Gas gangrene/necrotizing soft tissue infections
  • Central retinal (eye) artery occlusion
  • Sudden sensorineural hearing loss

A Multidisciplinary Approach

Our patients have access to a wide range of clinical experts, including:

  • Physicians who specialize in wound care, podiatry, vascular surgery, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy
  • Physicians specializing in orthopedics and physical medicine and rehabilitation
  • Physicians specializing in pain management
  • Nurse practitioner and registered nurses specializing in wounds
  • Certified hyperbaric technician
  • Physical and occupational therapists

In collaboration with our Limb Preservation Program, our wound care specialists strive to heal wounds and prevent amputations through advanced wound care, patient education, and active prevention.

Our Goal is to Improve the Patient’s Quality of Life

There is a misconception with many severe open wounds that amputation is unavoidable, particularly when diabetes is involved. To avoid amputation, it is important to provide wound care education and treatment as early as possible.

Our program assesses the patient and works to heal the wound and prevent deformity through:

  • Risk identification to determine problems in the early stages
  • Evaluation based upon objective as well as subjective criteria
  • Advanced wound care designed for each individual patient
  • Instruction for the patient and family to promote the best long-term outcomes through proper ongoing care at home
  • Continuous follow-up and monitoring provided by multidisciplinary team members
  • Prevention of catastrophic complications, such as amputation

We Collaborate With Referring Physicians

Our team works with referring physicians to help establish a diagnosis and treatment plan, as well as recommend ways to improve or maintain a patient’s function. We welcome physicians to participate in the assessment process, or we can provide the referring doctor with the results and a recommended care plan. We accept most insurance providers, including Medicare.
