  • Author: Robert Duncan
  • Date Submitted: Dec 22, 2022
One Sunday in October of 1985, Robert Duncan was under the weather, with a strange tingling in his ankles. He drove himself to a hospital and by the time he got there couldn’t manage to exit the car. Robert was experiencing the onset of Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare, life-threatening disorder in which your body's immune system attacks the nerves. Days later, Robert was completely paralyzed. Eventually, he would come to Casa Colina for extensive rehabilitation. For months he fought to regain physical function and the ability to perform basic daily activities, slowly but surely returning to his beloved life as a husband, father, and businessman. So inspired was Robert by his recovery experience at Casa Colina, he would become intimately involved in its success, joining its Board of Directors and serving as chair from 2003 to 2006.
