Casa Colina Recognized as a Center of Excellence by Ehlers-Danlos Society

Casa Colina Hospital and Centers for Healthcare has been recognized by the Ehlers-Danlos Society’s Centers & Networks of Excellence (CNE) program. It is one of only 17 programs in the United States and one of only three in California to earn the CNE recognition. The Ehlers-Danlos Society is a global organization dedicated to advancing and accelerating research and education in Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS) and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD).

EDS and HSD are a group of genetic disorders that affect connective tissues, particularly the skin, tendons, ligaments, blood vessel walls, and internal organs. Symptoms can be debilitating and may vary depending on the form and severity of the condition. While there is no cure, these conditions can be treated to improve mobility and overall quality of life.

The Casa Colina EDS Program offers comprehensive, physician-led outpatient care for patients with EDS and HSD, all supported by a wide range of therapeutic and other clinical specialists who have experience treating these disorders. The program is overseen by a family medicine doctor with more than 10 years’ expertise treating EDS and HSD. In addition, Casa Colina offers a monthly peer support group where those impacted by EDS and HSD can receive emotional support and education.

Programs recognized with the Centers & Networks of Excellence distinction must demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the Ehlers-Danlos Society, increasing the availability of clinical services, decreasing the diagnostic odyssey, and standardizing communication and care for those impacted by EDS and HSD. Criteria for recognition include a commitment to inclusivity and patient validation, demonstrated proficiency and up-to-date training, and an organizational commitment to research and education.

“As a regional leader in the treatment of Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes, Casa Colina has long recognized the need for expanded services and research to treat and better understand these complex conditions,” says Kelly M. Linden, President and CEO of Casa Colina. “We are proud to be recognized for these efforts by the world’s preeminent organization dedicated to improving the lives of those with EDS and HSD.”
